You start as the leader of a small tribe. Over time, you will develop – you will research new technologies, conquer territories and expand your small village into a large metropolis.
The game is roughly divided into ages. You start in the Stone Age and will go through the Bronze and Iron Ages, live through the various phases of the Middle Ages, get to know the colonial period and the industrial age.
You reach a new age by unlocking a technology from that time.
Once you have arrived in the new age, you will receive a new main building (town hall), which automatically replaces the old one. In most cases, new buildings can even be built immediately upon reaching an age.
